Maca Root

Maca Root is truly a super food. It balances hormones, strengthens bones, reduces inflammation, helps brain function, improves memory, provides endurance and energy, boosts mood, supports reproductive health and is loaded with minerals.
It contains 60% carbohydrates, 9% fiber and almost 10% protein. Dried maca powder is high in lipid content, including linoleic and oleic acids. It's very mineral-rich with calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, sulfur, iron and contains trace minerals such as zinc, copper, selenium, silica and manganese. And to top it all off, maca contains nearly 20 different amino acids, giving you a wide variety of benefits for your on-the-go lifestyle!
Know as the natural Viagra, maca is a scientifically proven aphrodisiac. Scientific experiments have shown that people who eat or take maca supplements experience an increase in sexual desire and fertility! Recent research shows that men who were fed a diet of maca-enriched foods have a higher sperm count, and greater motility of the sperm cells. Men have also reported that maca helps erectile dysfunction, and aids them in achieving better sexual performance. Women who consume maca also experience an increase in libido and fertility, with the extra benefit of relief from PMS and menopausal symptoms.
Can you eat too much maca? Yes, of course. Maca is a powerful super food herb and should be consumed with respect. 1-2 tablespoons each day is enough to see the effects and it is recommended that you take a week off during every month of consistent use.
Are there any side effect or interactions to overeating maca? In toxicity studies conducted in the U.S. maca showed absolutely no toxicity and no adverse pharmacological effects. In animal studies, the more maca animals consumed, the stronger and more sexually active they became. In spite of all this, moderation is advised.
MACAroon recipe:
  • 1/2 cup fresh dates, pitted
  • 1/2 cup dried, pitted cherries
  • 3/8 cup organic maca powder
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup raw almonds, walnuts or pecans (for toppings)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut (for toppings)
  • 1/4 cup cacao powder (for toppings)
1. Combine cherries, dates, maca and coconut oil in a food processor and process until smooth.
2. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm enough to roll into balls.
3. Roll into 1 tablespoon sized balls.
4. Add nuts to food processor and process until roughly chopped.
5. Roll balls in the chopped nuts, coconut or cacao powder and keep refrigerated!
